  • I've already written about this a bit in another forum, but I just want to reiterate that I think people should not only make the phone calls suggested in this notice, but that they need to call their home state Senators too. I realize a lot of times people think yeah, right, that's not going to do any good, but you'd be surprised what phone calls do if a Senator gets enough of them. You might also think, well it wouldn't do any good in my state because my Senators are staunch Republicans, or ultra conservative, or something like that. Wrong. Call them. Remind them that this is a bipartisan amendment. Tell the person on the phone that there is no shame in voting for this because it is a bipartisan amendment. These are the Senators that need to know they won't lose face with their constituents if they vote for this Bill. I think sometimes that some of the folks in Washington are so focused on being Democrat or Republican that they can't see the forest through the trees. This is a time to get into the pasture.
    • I hope you're right but I'm generally pessimistic. I was just talking to a friend that works for Congressional Quarterly and asked about this bill and she just shook her head like she wasn't going to patronize me - it's not going to get anywhere and that most of the Republicans in question are coming up for re-election and can't afford to vote for this bill. I do hope you're right though! and will get my act together and call.
      • I'm glad you're calling. I think what happens so many times is that people think that their Congressman won't listen to them so they don't make the call. And they won't listen to one call. Or two. Or even three. But when lots of people call they start getting scared. Even if this Bill doesn't pass I think people should be a lot more proactive. We've let our Congressmen make our decisions for us for too long. They are supposed to REPRESENT us, not overrule us. By calling you'll at least feel that you did your part. And the next time there's some issue you feel strongly about, make the call again!
  • Oh yes, I signed it and called whoever I could get my hands on. The one thing that should give it a plus is that it is bipartisan. Personally, I would like to see Senator Biden on a bipartisan ticket, now how would that be folks? I think it would sell big time - he needs another on the ticket who is a bit more moderate and Republican. I have a strange feeling that he's looking at that. It would be a real strong selling point, especially for the undecided and those that are generally fed up with Congress as a whole. Can I get a take on this?
