Patents, why bother? - Found+READ
Not to mention, if it is a behind the scenes software or algorithm patent, you need to expose exactly how you do it, which your competitors can then just copy it. That is why the best patents are patents on business processes. You think that Google's real search algorithms are patented? I don't think so!
