Intuit Embraces Layoffs, Social Media & Google Advice
Note: Layoffs at Intuit are under way. Approximately 600 people will be let go. “We invest where the puck is going to be”, said Brad Smith, Intuit’s CEO. He plans to reinvest whatever savings accrue from the cuts into online software initiatives.

Note: appssavvy, a company that aims to help pair developers on social media platforms with advertisers and brands, has closed a $3.1 million Series A funding round led by TRUE Ventures. Also joining the round is About.com founder Scott Kurnit.

Note: CNN’s foray into social media backfired when one of the debut posts turned out to be a bogus report claiming that Apple’s boss, Steve Jobs, had suffered a heart attack.

Note: Yesterday Google rolled out the new version of their Blogsearch product with a surprising new feature: a blog aggregator. The aggregator sorts all news articles being linked to across their blog index based on popularity and time.

Note: National Public Radio is attempting to boost its digital credentials with the introduction of social-networking features like those on Facebook. NPR also plans a site overhaul and expansion of the tools to distribute its programs on other sites in the next few months.
