Tips for Using Cookie Cutters
Note: If this is your first time using cookie cutters, keep in mind the following tips: Don’t overwork the dough. Mix the sugar and butter till its smooth and pale. When you add the flour, mix only until it is all mixed through. Chill your dough for about an hour after mixing. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap to keep out air. You want to work with chilled dough when rolling.

Star Cookie Cutter and Other Religious Symbols
Note: Nativity scene cookie cutters are my personal favorite. I collect crèches, figures and nativity sets. I have a hand carved set made of olive wood from the Holy Land and a plastic canvas stitched set to name just a few. Making Nativity scene cookies is more ambitious than many of the other Christmas cookies you may cut. This is because there are a lot more narrow edges. And icing faces is particularly challenging.

Other Uses for Cookie Cutters – Sweets
Note: Pretty Desserts Press cookie cutter into an iced cake. Use a pastry tube to color the indent line and/or color in the middle. Cut out shapes from rolled fondant and add to a cake. This works really well with flowers. Try coloring small balls of fondant and mixing together to create swirly colors.

Other Uses for Cookie Cutters – Kids and Crafts
Note: Use cookie cutter shapes to punch out a scooped out pumpkin. Or lightly press into any gourd and carefully peel away the outer layer whether it is scooped or not for the latest decorator look.

Other Uses for Cookie Cutters – Gifts and Decor
Note: Don’t hide your cookie cutters in a drawer. Display them in a shadow box or directly on the wall. Fill a large clear jar and set them on the counter. Or display in a pretty wicker basket.

Other Uses for Cookie Cutters – Food
Note: Make sandwiches as usual. Use your mini cookie cutters and press up to 4 mini sandwich shapes per bread. These are great for teas, parties, showers and weddings. Or use a full size cookie cutter and make a nice surprise holiday sandwich in someone’s lunchbox. You may also want to experiment with just cutting the bread, then add sandwich filling like peanut butter and jelly or egg salad.

Gingerbread Cookie Cutter and More
Note: They don’t get any cuter than this folks. Everyone loves a gingerbread man cookie. You can make a boy you can make a girl You can make them a house. And why not add a cat and dog? Don’t forget a bone for the dog. With a little creativity, you could design a whole village.

Edible Christmas Ornament And Other Ideas
Note: A really simple Christmas cookie to cut out is a Christmas ornament or Christmas ball. You (and the kids) can let your imaginations soar. And you can even hang the cookies on the tree. Just use a straw to make a hole at the top of the cookie before baking.

Note: A really popular cookie cutter shape is the Christmas Tree Cookie Cutter. Christmas tree cookies are so simple to decorate.
