Next Michael Moore Film Goes Out For Free
Note: Starting on Sept. 23, Michael Moore will distribute his next movie, “Slacker Uprising,” online for free. The film follows Moore’s 2004 62-city tour of college campuses in the U.S. to encourage young viewers to elect John Kerry president. The film will be available in North America for three weeks at Slackeruprising.com.

National Geographic Prepares Mobile Site
Note: National Geographic Ventures has formed a mobile division that will provide video programming, games and other content to wireless phones. The company announced that it will launch its mobile content site in October.

Comcast, Panasonic Demo Interactive Cable
Note: At the CEDIA Expo in Denver this week, Comcast and Panasonic are demonstrating a 50-inch plasma TV with built-in tru2way technology linked interactively with the local Comcast cable system. Bob Perry, senior vice president with Panasonic Display Company, said, “A tru2way television is actually a computer of sorts. When you activate your television on a local cable TV system, it downloads a Java application that executes on the TV.”

ESPN Moving Personalities Into Virtual World Realm
Note: The New York Times reports that ESPN plans to move into virtual worlds by merging video game graphics with its real-life sports anchors. Working with Electronic Arts, ESPN would allow its commentators to interact with three-dimensional virtual players as they talk about upcoming games or matches.

Note: During MTV’s live “2008 Video Music Awards” this Sunday, MTV, Pepsi and interactive television company Esequence will cast their final votes with their remotes for Pepsi’s Best New Artist award.

U.S. Internet Traffic Grows By 53% From Mid-2007
Note: Compared with the same period, Internet traffic in the U.S. increased by 53% from mid-2007 to mid-2008. That figure, while still high, represents a dip from the 61% recorded for the previous 12-month span. According to Web tracking firm TeleGeography, Web service providers have kept the pace by providing more bandwidth, and long-haul Internet traffic uses only 29% of the available bandwidth.

The Family Guy Goes Online (WSJ)
Note: A rapid ascent in television has set Mr. MacFarlane up for what will be a closely watched push onto the Web. On Wednesday, dozens of his short cartoons will start rolling out through Google to a variety of sites, making Mr. MacFarlane the first major producer to get a ride on the Web giant's network. "It's a big experiment," he says.

Negative Momentum: Newspaper Ad Revenues Gaining Downhill Speed (Even Online Is Declining)
Note: Can it get any worse for the newspaper industry? The steep decline in print advertising just keeps getting steeper and, for the first time, even online ad sales have gone down.

McCain Gets GOP Nod & RNC Speeches including Sarah Palin - Surprise Many
Note: The carefully GOP manipulated TV coverage of the RNC Wednesday night was an interesting sociological snapshot of the base of supporters physically present. You would have thought that some of the nationally known speakers - Meg Whitman, founder of that small little company E-Bay and Carly Fiorina, former chief executive of Hewlett-Packard were giving a speech to themselves inside a closet when talking of GOP reform and prosperity in the future - absolutely NO response what-so-ever from the convention hall packed audience. Truly astonishing, because some issues discussed to be accomplished by the potential McCain Presidency were out there and on the far side.
