Charlotte Foreclosed Homes Drag Down House Prices
Note: Charlotte foreclosed homes helped push up house sales, but dragged down home prices, according to the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association. The average price of homes in October fell by nearly 10 percent to $196,204.

Bank Homes to Arise from 350,000 Exotic Mortgages
Note: The rise in bank homes in the next few years will arise from the 350,000 exotic mortgages taken out from 2004 to 2007, according to a report published by S&P. The report stated that more than 22 percent of option ARM borrowers defaulted within 20 months after the issuance of their loans.

Pet Shelters Compelled to Euthanize Animals
Note: Pet shelters throughout the country are now compelled to euthanize animals because their personnel are not able to treat abandoned animals fast enough. A shelter in Elkhart, Indiana has been receiving about 700 animals every month since the start of the recession.

Note: Boston foreclosed homes pulled down the price median for single-family houses and condo units in October. Although home sales rose by more than 17 percent, the median single-family sales price dropped by almost three percent.

Houston Foreclosures for Sale Slowed, but Total Sales Rose
Note: Houston foreclosures for sale that closed in October dropped, but total sales of single-family houses increased by more than 14 percent. The percentage of foreclosure sales dropped to around 19 percent, compared to 26 percent in October last year.

Note: The bank foreclosure prevention program of CitiMortgage has been improving significantly. CEO Sanjiv Das also said that the bank has started implementing principal reduction for some deserving borrowers.

Note: Animal shelters in Dallas are being overwhelmed by pets being brought in by families facing financial hardships and foreclosures. They are also struggling from declines in donations, funding and adoptions.

Note: Listings of repo homes are expected to grow in the coming months because of the continued rise in mortgage defaults. According to LPS, about 12.4 percent of U.S. homeowners with mortgage loans were in default by 30 days in October.

Note: The foreclosed homes sale recently closed just outside Miami by Goldman Sachs and a partnership based in Nova Scotia showed how deeply discounted prices are in the Miami area. A total of 158 foreclosed condo units were sold at only $113,009 per unit.
