When Battling Cancer, Do Appearances Deceive?
Note:
On average, patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer have only a one-in-20 chance of being alive five years after the cancer is found, according to the National Cancer Institute. The average life expectancy is grim as well. But, can you judge the severity of somebodys illness, based on their appearance alone?

Lawsuits Against Bloggers Seen Rising
Note:
The blogging community increasingly is subject to lawsuits and threats of legal action running the gamut from subpoenas to cease-and-desist notices. Bloggers faced with legal threats often deem it easier to remove potentially offensive content rather than undertake the difficulty and expense of defending themselves

Male lust is blind, research suggests.
Note:
Men have long been accused of judging women on looks alone, but even the plainest Jane can get their hormones raging, a study has found. Or in the immortal words of Ol Dirty Bastard: I dedicate this to all the pretty girls...And the ugly girls, too, cause to me your pretty anyways

Gene Found That Limits Alcohol Risk
Note:
As many as one in four have a much-reduced risk of developing alcohol-related cancer thanks to their genetic make-up, scientists have discovered. Researchers have identified two genes that quickly flush alcohol out of the system, thus reducing its carcinogenic effect

Rice accuses Iran of stalling and threatens sanctions
Note:
Reuters : Monday, July 21, 2008
SHANNON, Ireland: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warned Iran on Monday that it faced more sanctions if it defied a two-week deadline to agree to curb its nuclear program. Rice said Iran was stalling and must give a "serious answer" within the deadline set by six world powers, which offered trade and technical incentives if Tehran were to halt its enrichment of uranium. "We are in the strongest possible position to demonstrate that if Iran does not act then it is time to go back to that track," Rice said, referring to sanctions rather than engagement. The comments were her first on the subject since Washington broke from usual policy and sent a high-ranking official to nuclear talks with Iran in Geneva on Saturday.

Analyze This: Why Washington's new playbook on Iran is no laughing matter
Note:
Calev Ben-David , THE JERUSALEM POST
US television satirist Jon Stewart had a merry old time on his Daily Show this weekend mocking the Bush administration's apparent change in strategy toward Iran. After showing a clip taken from President Bush's speech in the Knesset just two months ago in which he declared: "Some seem to believe we should negotiate with the terrorists and the radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along" - Stewart noted that the administration had just authorized the highest-level diplomatic contact with Iran in three decades, sending US Undersecretary of State William Burns to sit with Iranian negotiators at the seven-nation nuclear talks in Geneva on Saturday.

Brown heckled in the kensset
Note:
Brown heckled as he tells Israelis 'candidly, as a friend' to withdraw from settlements and start to build peace. By Benedict Brogan.
Gordon Brown delivered a blunt message in the heart of Israeli democracy today by calling for an end to new settlements. In a speech to the country's parliament, he used a passionate defence of Israel's right to exist to issue what he described as an 'honest analysis'. With three current and former premiers of Israel in the audience, he set out what amounted to a coded rebuke of what critics say is the country's failure to deliver on the latest peace deal with the Palestinians. His willingness to speak plainly about the need for a compromise provoked at least one heckle and what looked like walkout by an MP.
