Six killed in Iraq bomb- attack on Ahmad Chalabi
Note: Ex-Iraqi deputy prime minister and former Pentagon favourite, Ahmad Chalabi, escaped a suicide car bomb attack on his convoy in Baghdad, an official in his office said today.Mr Chalabi was not wounded, but the explosion on Friday night in the western Baghdad neighbourhood of Mansour killed six of his bodyguards, said the official, Ayad Kadhim Sabti. Police said more than a dozen other people were wounded in the blast.Mr Chalabi, a secular Shiite who was once viewed by Washington as a possible successor to Saddam Hussein, was on his way to his headquarters in the area when the bomb exploded, his office said. After spending most of his life abroad, Mr Chalabi returned to Iraq in 2003 and served in the 25-member Governing Council appointed by the American occupation authorities to run the country’s day-to-day affairs. He was a member of the next two Cabinets, serving as finance minister and then as deputy prime minister but failed to win a seat in parliament in the 2005 election. He now is chairman of a commission responsible for keeping Saddam loyalists out of government posts, his office said, and is believed to have escaped several assassination attempts since 2003.Meanwhile, at least six people were killed and about 50 were injured today - including 19 in critical condition – when a suicide bomber attacked a market in Tal Afar, police and medical officials said. The small but strategic north-western Iraqi city has been a frequent target of suicide bombers over the past five years.Last month, officials said 25 people were killed when a car bomb exploded in a crowded market in Tal Afar, which is located about 260 miles north-west of Baghdad. US officials blamed the August 8 attack on al-Qaeda in Iraq.

Plan Would Shift Forces From Iraq to Afghanistan : advises prophet Gen. David H. Petraeus
Note: WASHINGTON — The United States would carry out a modest shift of American forces from Iraq to Afghanistan by early next year under a confidential recommendation to President Bush by the Pentagon’s top civilian and military leaders, according to Bush administration officials. The troop recommendations came from consultations between Gen. David H. Petraeus, at left in July, and the Pentagon. The number of American combat brigades in Iraq would shrink to 14 in February from 15, according to the recommendation. All told, the number of American forces in Iraq, currently about 146,000, would drop by nearly 8,000 by March. The reduction is smaller than some officials had earlier suggested might be possible before President Bush leaves office in January, given the significant decline in violence in Iraq. But it reflects the caution of Gen. David H. Petraeus, who is leaving his post as the senior American commander in Iraq this month, about the still-unsettled situation in Iraq.

Woman Tried For Sale Of Goggles To Iran
Note: A Florida federal trial is under way of a woman who allegedly conspired to supply U.S. military night-vision goggles to Iran. Shahrazad Mir Gholikhan, 30, first pleaded guilty but is now maintaining she was unwittingly drawn into her husband's 2004 trip to Vienna, Austria, to arrange the illegal deal, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Wednesday.Prosecutors allege she was fully part of an attempt to deliver thousands of the military-grade items and that the woman's voice could be heard on allegedly incriminating phone conversations. Gholikhan could be sentenced to 20 years in prison if found guilty of violating federal laws prohibiting sale of military equipment to Iran. Her husband remains at large after efforts to extradite him from Austria failed. Gholikhan voluntarily returned to Fort Lauderdale in April to face charges. The only reason she did that is because she's innocent, her lawyer, William Barzee, told the Sun-Sentinel. U.S. District Judge James Cohn permitted Gholikhan to retract her guilty plea

Leader of the Junduallah Movement Fighting against Iran Abd Al-Malek Al-Rigi: We Plan to Carry our Attack into Tehran ( In Arabic)THIS REPORT GOT THE
Note: Following are excerpts from an interview with Abd Al-Malik Rigi, leader of the Jundallah movement in Balochistan, which aired on Al-Arabiya TV on August 7, 2008. Reporter: Behind me are the mountains of Iran, to my right the mountains of Afghanistan, and in front of me the mountains of Pakistan. In this area, after a two-day journey, I met with the leader of the Jundallah movement, Abd Al-Malik Rigi. This is a country of no law – the republic of drug smugglers, arms smugglers, and outlaws, the kingdom of all those who have rebelled against their government. The meeting was held at this tri-border area between Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. The armed men took us through this harsh desert and its black-clad mountains en route to the place where we would meet the Emir. Our car broke down in the middle of nowhere. Driver: Don’t worry, I have fixed the problem. We are now close to the Emir, and we will reach him soon. Reporter: After several hours in these mountains, Jundallah’s armed men were waiting for us. At this point, filming was forbidden. A few moments later, the armed men of Jundallah came to take me to the Emir. Abd Al-Malik Rigi, Iran’s most wanted man, was sentenced to death for his involvement in the kidnapping and killing of soldiers, and the establishment of an armed group fighting the Islamic Republic of Iran.Abd Al-Malik Rigi: Now we are able to carry our operations to Tehran, and Allah willing, we will do so. But before carrying out any operation, we consider its implications and how it will benefit us.Reporter: Rigi says that he is determined to achieve his goals, and that he is now capable of expanding his group’s activities to include all of Iran. Even though he says that he is independent and is not subordinate to anybody, Iran accuses him of terrorism and of connections with Al-Qaeda, and of being a tool used by the U.S. to exert pressure on the Islamic Republic. Al-Malik Rigi: This is not true. The cause of the Sunnies in Iran and Balochistan has nothing to do with the U.S. I’ve said time and again, and I would like to reiterate, that any government that defends its people and gives it all its rights – no force, neither America nor Europe, will be able to withstand it. But if that country does not give its citizens their rights, it is only natural that it will not be able to face any external threat. If the U.S. attacks Iran, we will hold consultations with the Sunnis in Iran and Balochistan. If the U.S. attempts to deprive us of our rights, we will definitely confront it. The claim that we are operating in favor of the U.S. is being spread by the Tehran regime. At the same time, they are saying that we are connected to Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. But I stress that we have no ties with Al-Qaeda or the Taliban. We are trying to expand the range of our activities to reach all of Iran, even within Tehran. We are constantly considering how to expand our activities. We will continue our activities until our people achieves all its rights.

Iranian Political Science Professor Mohammad-Ali Fardanesh Slams Mccain and Praises Obama and Clinton ( in Farsi)
Note: Mohammad-Ali Fardanesh: The difference between Mr. McCain and Mr. Bush is that McCain steps harder on the gas, but he is driving down the same path, and so, there is no difference between them. [...] The problem with Mr. Obama is his education. He is a Harvard graduate. The Americans cannot accept him because they consider him an elitist – someone who thinks he is above others, because he is better educated. They don’t understand that his education would enable him to serve them better. Interviewer: So they will have more money... Mohammad-Ali Fardanesh: This would improve the situation in America in general. The flaw they see in Mr. Obama – which they don’t admit – is that he is highly educated and very eloquent. What does he talk so eloquently for?! Mr. McCain, who considers himself such an expert in international politics, still says “Czechoslovakia.” Interviewer: He doesn’t know that Czechoslovakia was divided? Mohammad-Ali Fardanesh: He doesn’t know anything, poor thing. He is terrible. Let me tell you, he’s awful. He doesn’t know the difference between Shiites and Sunnis, yet he wants to resolve the problems in Iraq? He doesn’t know whether Iran is Shiite or Sunni, or the difference between the two. [...] Interviewer: Many experts believe that the crises in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Palestine are the Achilles’ heel of America. Therefore, we should ask whether there is any difference between the Democratic and Republican parties with regard to the issue of Iraq. Is there any difference between them? Mohammad-Ali Fardanesh: Yes. Mr. Obama’s perspective is more clear. Only yesterday, they transferred control of the Al-Anbar province to the Iraqi government, on the first day of Ramadhan. This is something Mr. Obama has been saying. Mr. Obama has said several times: “Al-Qaeda operates in 80 countries, but we got ourselves entangled in Iraq. Our presence in iraq is what led Al-Qaeda to begin to operate there.” That’s why Mr. Obama and his team... Mr. Biden is a very respectable man. He has a good reputation, and he is respectable and healthy. He has been in the Senate for 36 years, since he was 29. They are more knowledgeable in foreign affairs. True, Obama has no experience, but McCain not only has no experience, but doesn’t even know where “abroad” is. The poor thing is very absent-minded. Interviewer: McCain has declared that if he is elected, American forces will stay in Iraq 100 years. Based on this, can we draw any conclusion about which party is more likely to win? Mohammad-Ali Fardanesh: My problem is that McCain is a war hero, a senior pilot, whose plane crashed in Vietnam and who spent eight and a half years at war. He is a respectable, humane, honest, and patriotic man, but when it comes to foreign policy and domestic affairs, he doesn’t have anything to offer. [...] Interviewer: Is the fact that [Palin] is a woman likely to appeal to women, and to arouse feminist sentiment in American society? Mohammad-Ali Fardanesh: Definitely. Dr. Kamrava mentioned the question of her experience. I don’t think her husband knows about her experience either. She doesn’t have any experience. Interviewer: She spent two years as governor of Alaska. Mohammad-Ali Fardanesh: 16 months. She was the mayor of a town of 10,000 residents. The previous governor of Alaska was a very corrupt man, and anybody running against him would have won. That’s how she won. No. My answer is “no.” Just like Obama is a phenomenon, as I said, Mrs. Clinton, with her academic record, her determination, and her expertise in various issues, was outstanding and prominent. She is one of the strongest women in American history. Now, Mrs. Palin – whose name they don’t even pronounce correctly... Will she manage to attract Clinton’s voters? No.
