Komak- spreading goodwill and progress
Note: Komak, through the spreading of goodwill and progress, hopes to initiate a wide-reaching collaborative network, effectual charitable endeavors, and invaluable mentorship services for the community at large, focusing our efforts on educating and raising awareness. Komak is dedicated to improving the wellbeing of multicultural diaspora and will work towards the establishment of a powerful synergy. We focus on the following: Goodwill & Humanitarian Aid It is important for individuals to get active! Centered on cultural and humanitarian organizations, Komak will continuously strive to give back to those less fortunate and will fight to improve our communities, global as well as local. Lecture Series and Conferences These such events will provide a source of greater information and knowledge. Awareness regarding current events and issues within the Middle East, South Asia, and North Africa is always encouraged. Distinguished guests ranging from authors, professors, and political/social analysts will be invited to discuss important issues in the world. Mentorship This organization’s service objective is to provide mentorship to students of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and North African descent. We hope to draw from the experiences of members in order to guide and advise those in need of guidance. This mentorship program aims to address cultural issues and obstacles, but also gives members valuable advice on academics and provides valuable resources that will prove beneficial in the future. Community Service Komak is passionate about helping and connecting national and international communities through various service programs and projects. We will accomplish this through both fundraising and hands-on services. We will participate in a number of self-started service projects, as well as contribute to those already created by established and respected organizations, such as academic institutions and non-profit organizations targeting our areas of interest. Education This service is a crucial component of Komak’s main objective for creating a better tomorrow. As cultural and ethnic tensions grow and become ever more fragile in the post-September 11 world, it becomes urgent to combat misconceptions about our cultures. If tolerance and community are the standards purported, and we find a discrepancy between the words and actions of those within power, than we take it as our duty, as those best-oriented with this cultural perspective, to combat ignorance and discrimination, not only on the local level, but most importantly on the international scale. As Komak rises further, so will its members and affiliate organizations. Leadership opportunities and unprecedented experiences are a promise. Make a difference for others and yourself. This is our pledge. Make it yours too.
