Giant Clams Fed Early Humans
Note:
Giant clams two feet long might have helped feed prehistoric humans as they first migrated out of Africa, new research reveals. The species, Tridacna costata, once accounted for more than 80 percent of giant clams in the Red Sea, researcher now say.

Wind turbines make bat lungs explode
Note:
Beware: exploding lungs is not a sign one would expect to see at a wind farm. But a new study suggests this is the main reason bats die in large numbers around wind turbines. The risk that wind turbines pose to birds is well known and has dogged debates over wind energy. In fact, several studies have suggested the risk to bats is greater...

A Protein That Helps Create Immortal Cells
Note:
It may take just one or two proteins to polish off a simple cellular task, but life-or-death matters, such as caring for the ends of chromosomes known as telomeres, require interacting crews of proteins, all with a common goal but each with a specialized task.

Is Science Fiction Too Obsessed w/ The Past?
Note:

Pizza Oven + Inkjet Printer + Nail Polish=Cheap Solar Cells?
Note:
Nicole Kuepper, a 23 years old PhD student, might have just found a way to make the world a better place. The processes she developed for the iJET solar cell dont require the very expensive clean rooms and high-temperature ovens of traditional solar panel manufacturing plants, but rather pizza ovens, nail polish and inkjet printers.

Hot Asphalt as Better Energy Collector than Solar Panels?
Note:
Researchers in Massachusetts are working on a technique to turn heat gathered by asphalt into useable energy via water pipes. Their paper, released this week at the International Symposium on Asphalt Pavements and Environment in Zurich, posits that asphalt roads could be better than solar panels in gathering energy.
