Tech: Are You Ready for Social Mapping?
Note: When Nick Douglas, an aspiring comedy writer in San Francisco, wanted to avoid an "annoying" couple in his neighborhood, he turned to Dodgeball. Not the masochistic childhood game, but a mobile phone service that informs you of your friends' locations via text message. The couple, he says, were Dodgeball diehards and updated nearly all their errands and outings. "I was able to avoid them for weeks," says Douglas, 24.

FCC Approves The First Google Phone
Note: Taiwan-based HTC has received approval from the Federal Communications Commission to market the first phone using Google’s Android technology. Approval for the new Dream smartphone will enable T-Mobile, the nation’s number-four wireless carrier, to go ahead with plans to debut the phone next month and begin selling it ahead of the Christmas shopping season.

Toshiba To Offer New DVD Players
Note: Toshiba is stepping back into the DVD format battle after losing out to Blu-ray. The electronics company is releasing a new type of standard DVD player that will maximize the look of DVD for HD TV sets. Toshiba says its new XD-E500 will sharpen the look of the DVD images noticeably. The new model will sell for $149.99.
