Is Farmland Preservation Worthwhile?
Note: Preserving farmland has always been a major issue in the U.S. But as Bill Fulton discusses, the local economic results don't quite justify the efforts.

FCC Wants to Know If Gov't Paid Military Officers To Sell War
Note: The Federal Communications Commission today said it has launched a probe into allegations that the Department of Defense paid former military officers to present favorable view of the war in Iraq on television shows.

Blocked punt gives Arizona 30-24 overtime victory (AP)
Note: Never before had an NFL team started a game with a kickoff return for a score, then ended it with a blocked punt in overtime for a touchdown. It was that kind of crazy day in the desert. J.J. Arrington, inactive the first four games of the season, opened things up with a 93-yard return for an Arizona score.

McCain's Week Off To Rocky Start
Note: Late Sunday evening word emerged from McCain headquarters that, in fact, there would be no bold new economic proposal to throw on the table. "We do not have any immediate plans to announce any policy proposals outside of the proposals that John McCain has announced, and the certain proposals that would result as economic news continues to come our way," said spokesman Tucker Bounds.~~~~~~McCain is or has been for quite a while. He is way too erratic for me.

Tax Delay Fails to Quell Iranian Protest
Note: TEHRAN — A strike in Iran’s traditional bazaars expanded on Sunday despite an order by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to suspend a new tax on sales that ignited the protest more than a week ago. The main entrance to the Grand Bazaar in Tehran was closed, as major traders like carpet and textile merchants joined the jewelers, who had started the strike in Tehran. The strike continued in the traditional bazaars in several other large cities, including Isfahan, where it erupted first on Oct. 4.

Note: All things aside including Colorado state-wide new voter registration, efforts to get out the voters by each campaign and recent political polls, the intention here is to only examine the philosophy and political or other hidden agenda behind each ballot initiative. Note: Englands Football Association says it will investigate claims of possible match fixing after suspicious betting patterns were reported in British media. The governing body said Saturday it will consider evidence provided by the Sunday Telegraph newspaper that a massive movement in bets in Asia was detected by bookmakers at around halftime of a second-tier League Championship match.
