Note: Is it a coincidence that the introduction of high fructose corn syrup in the 1970s coincided with a marked rise in obesity in the United States? Thus, leading to speculations that there might be a causal connection between High Fructose Corn Syrup consumption and weight gain.

Yahoo, Verizon Renew Partnership
Note: Yahoo and Verizon Communications have renewed their working relationship. Under the deal announced on Wednesday, Verizon high-speed Internet subscribers will have the opportunity to use a cobranded Verizon-Yahoo portal that includes Yahoo’s search, email and instant-messaging services. Verizon users also have Microsoft or AOL as options, but Yahoo will remain as the first option.

Note: You know how your mother always tells you to wear clean under wear in case you’re in an accident, that’s kind of what travel insurance is like. You have to have it just in case because should something unfortunate happen (cross your fingers, turn in a circle three times to the left and spit on your right shoe for luck) you are really going to want to be covered for it.

Note: Today in New York, my driver was not happy. He is a New York Giants fan. The new NFL season begins tomorrow, with the Giants hosting the Washington Redskins. Despite being on the waiting list for season tickets since 1984, Tony has given up hope of ever buying a ticket.

Gap Widens in Online Advertising (WSJ)
Note: Spending on Internet advertising is climbing at a healthy clip -- rising 20% in the U.S. in the second quarter -- and growth forecasts are strong despite the weak economy. But that growth isn't being enjoyed by everyone. The gap is widening between spending on simple search ads, Google Inc.'s core turf, and spending on flashier display ads.

Note: Girls and young women who devote much time to the internet, get too little sleep or regularly drink alcohol are more likely than their peers to put on excess weight, a new study suggests.The researchers, who followed more than 5,000 girls between 14 and 21 years old for one year, found that the more spare time girls spent on the internet, the more their body mass index (BMI) increased.

Do you think overweight children come with parents who are also overweight
Note: In a way it is endorsement to the children that their eating habits and lifestyle habits are acceptable. Just like any of us what better role models than your parents. If they snack and eat unhealthily then the children will as well. However having said this, there are other considerations to take into account. For example there is some tentative evidence that people who are obese are genetically pre-disposed to it. So if this were the case, these families may have an underlying reason for their weight problems. This does not necessarily mean that there is nothing that they can do to lose weight.

Note: For doctors, having sex with a patient is completely off-limits. Yet research in the US has shown that one-in-10 family doctors has had a sexual relationship with a patient, and 40% of med students said if they were on a remote island and an attractive patient asked them out, theyd say yes.

Note: It's an older article, but just found it. It is an interesting thought exercise. Really what MS needs to do is to pay websites a portion of the advertising for clicks they get to their site. It sounds backwards, but I think it makes sense.
