Six killed in Iraq bomb- attack on Ahmad Chalabi
Note:
Ex-Iraqi deputy prime minister and former Pentagon favourite, Ahmad Chalabi, escaped a suicide car bomb attack on his convoy in Baghdad, an official in his office said today.Mr Chalabi was not wounded, but the explosion on Friday night in the western Baghdad neighbourhood of Mansour killed six of his bodyguards, said the official, Ayad Kadhim Sabti. Police said more than a dozen other people were wounded in the blast.Mr Chalabi, a secular Shiite who was once viewed by Washington as a possible successor to Saddam Hussein, was on his way to his headquarters in the area when the bomb exploded, his office said. After spending most of his life abroad, Mr Chalabi returned to Iraq in 2003 and served in the 25-member Governing Council appointed by the American occupation authorities to run the country’s day-to-day affairs. He was a member of the next two Cabinets, serving as finance minister and then as deputy prime minister but failed to win a seat in parliament in the 2005 election. He now is chairman of a commission responsible for keeping Saddam loyalists out of government posts, his office said, and is believed to have escaped several assassination attempts since 2003.Meanwhile, at least six people were killed and about 50 were injured today - including 19 in critical condition – when a suicide bomber attacked a market in Tal Afar, police and medical officials said. The small but strategic north-western Iraqi city has been a frequent target of suicide bombers over the past five years.Last month, officials said 25 people were killed when a car bomb exploded in a crowded market in Tal Afar, which is located about 260 miles north-west of Baghdad. US officials blamed the August 8 attack on al-Qaeda in Iraq.

Travel Insurance
Note:
You know how your mother always tells you to wear clean under wear in case you’re in an accident, that’s kind of what travel insurance is like. You have to have it just in case because should something unfortunate happen (cross your fingers, turn in a circle three times to the left and spit on your right shoe for luck) you are really going to want to be covered for it.

American Forces Attack Militants on Pakistani Soil
Note:
DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan — Helicopter-borne American Special Operations forces attacked Qaeda militants in a Pakistani village near the border with Afghanistan early Wednesday in the first publicly acknowledged case of United States forces conducting a ground raid on Pakistani soil, American officials said.
Until now, allied forces in Afghanistan have occasionally carried out airstrikes and artillery attacks in the border region of Pakistan against militants hiding there, and American forces in “hot pursuit” of militants have had some latitude to chase them across the border.

Sarkozy Says Iran Takes `Major Risk,' May Cause Israeli Attack
Note:
Sept. 4 (Bloomberg) -- French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Iran is taking a ``major risk'' in developing a nuclear program that may provoke an attack by Israel. ``Iran is taking a major risk in continuing its process of obtaining nuclear weapons, which we are certain is happening,'' Sarkozy said today in Damascus, Syria. ``One day, whatever the Israeli government is, we can imagine ourselves one morning with an Israel which would have attacked. That would be a disaster.''
