Google Investing Over $10 Million in Geothermal Energy
Note: Geothermal energy has finally hit the big time. Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, announced today that it is investing $10.25 million in an energy technology called Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS). The funding will also go towards geothermal resource mapping, information tools, and a geothermal energy policy agenda.

NYC mayor calls for wind turbines atop skyscrapers
Note: Wind turbines would top New York City skyscrapers and bridges and dot the city's shorelines, while the mighty tides that drive the Hudson and East Rivers would also generate power under a new plan Mayor Michael Bloomberg presented on Tuesday.

U.S. Wind Power Could Hit 150 Gigawatts by 2020
Note: The U.S. will shortly be the worlds largest producer of wind energy, surpassing Germanys 22 gigawatts. If the rate of growth continues, and ideal wind energy areas are exploited, the report says we could hit 150 gigawatts of wind power by 2020!

Note: What this space: Africa is fast becoming an important player in cleaner energy sources. If only 0.3% of sunlight falling on the Sahara and Middle Eastern deserts can potentially provide all of Europes energy needs because of its intensity, according to a report, how about everything else?

Note: According to the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), the capacity the US has for generating wind power is expected to increase 45% in 2008. Americas currently installed capacity stands at 19,549MW, up a total of 2,726MW from the end of 2007. Because of this, AWEA is announcing that America is now the US world leader in wind electricity.
