£2.7 trillion wiped ( $6 Trillion ) off the global value of shares as confidence collapses
Note:
A frenzied day of panic selling on stock markets across the world capped a week of extraordinary financial mayhem in which £2.7 trillion was wiped off the value of shares globally.
Finance ministers and central bank chiefs from the West’s leading economies attempted last night to quell the markets’ fears with moves to shore up their banking systems and prevent a full-scale meltdown of the world financial system. Such was the level of panic, however, that officials gathered in Washington were forced to contemplate the previously unthinkable: that Britain’s enfeebled banks may face outright nationalisation if Gordon Brown’s £50 billion bailout fails.

New Evidence Shows Bush Had No Plan to Catch bin Laden After 9/11
Note:
New evidence from former U.S. officials reveals that the George W. Bush administration failed to adopt any plan to block the retreat of Osama bin Laden and other al Qaeda leaders from Afghanistan to Pakistan in the first weeks after 9/11.That failure was directly related to the fact that top administration officials gave priority to planning for war with Iraq over military action against al Qaeda in Afghanistan.
As a result, the United States had far too few troops and strategic airlift capacity in the area to cover the large number of possible exit routes through the border area when bin Laden escaped in late 2001.

Barack Obama's link to the mullah's of Iran.: All My Friends, this is very important, please take the time to read it.
Note:
This election has me very worried. So many things to consider. About a year ago I would have voted for Obama. I have changed my mind three times since than. I watch all the news channels, jumping from one to another. I must say this drives my husband crazy. But, I feel if you view MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News, you might get some middle ground to work with. About six months ago, I started thinking 'where did the money come from for Obama'. I have four daughters who went to College, and we were middle class, and money was tight. We (including my girls) worked hard and there were lots of student loans.I started looking into Obama's life

Sorry, Karl - Capitalism is Not Dying ; By Amir Taheri
Note:
In one of those coincidences that add some spice to events, the passage of the $700 billion financial bailout package by the US Congress the other day came at the same time as some dyed-in-wool romantics were marking the 160th anniversary of the publication of the Communist Manifesto. As you know, the slim volume penned by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in 1848 is an almost messianic hymn to the end of capitalism and the advent of the Communist utopia. It is, therefore, no surprise that some commentators have tried to see the current problems in the banking sector of the major Western economies as a fulfillment of the Manifesto's predictions."Capitalism is dying," announced he French left wing daily Liberation."Maybe Marx was right, after all, "noted a British friend who has spent most of his adult life fighting Communism." I plan to go back and read the Manifesto."

Iraqi PM discusses US pact with Shiite cleric - Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani-
Note:
BAGHDAD (AP) - Iraq's most influential Shiite cleric indicated Friday he would not stand in the way a long-term U.S. security deal if it's approved by the country's democratic institutions, the prime minister said.Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani's office had no comment. Public opposition by the aging Iranian-born cleric could scuttle any agreement because of his vast influence within the majority Shiite community.Meanwhile, thousands of supporters of anti-U.S. cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, who opposes an accord to extend the U.S. presence beyond the end of the year, marched through eastern Baghdad to mourn the killing of a Sadrist lawmaker.

Giving Until It Hurts - 30 years of deceit and treachery....
Note:
In response to a casual question, U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates dropped a historical bombshell, an offhand remark telling more about how the Middle East works than 100 books. And a former Marine commander adds an equally big revelation about long-ago events quite relevant for today.
Almost thirty years ago, President Jimmy Carter tried to show what a nice guy he was by pressing the Shah not to crush the revolutionaries. After the monarch fell, National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski met top officials of the new Islamist regime to pledge U.S. friendship to the government controlled by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. At the time, I wrote that by approaching some of the milder radicals, the administration frightened the more militant ones. U.S.-Iran relations must be smashed, they concluded, lest Washington back their rivals. In fact, as we'll see in a moment, the Carter administration offered to back Khomeini himself.
