Note: The National Football League is fielding three teams for Sunday's Super Bowl. The first two are well known: the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals. The third, more anonymous one is the 17-member IT staff that the NFL has assigned to work in Tampa, Fla., the site of this year's game.

Note: High school cheerleading is a contact sport and therefore its participants cannot be sued for accidentally causing injuries, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled Tuesday in a case being closely watched in the cheerleading world.

Note: A Santa Ana, Calif., company says about 120 footballs will be used in Super Bowl XLIII, and all of them will be marked to prevent counterfeiting. "The DNA ink has an astronomical 1-in-33 million chance of being accurately reproduced by counterfeiters," said Orlando, author of "Collecting Sports Legends."
