Battle of the Typing: iPhone, Treo, WritingPad, PC
Note: Paramount to any other features of the iPhone, the lack-of-keypad is what distinguished it from the rest of the market. This feature, however, brought much criticism to the iPhone, for many believed it would be far more difficult to type.

Japanese Browser Maker Takes On IE, Firefox
Note: A Japanese software company is stepping up international promotion of its Web browser in the hope of carving out a 5% share over the next few years of a market dominated by Internet Explorer and Firefox.The Sleipnir browser is well-known among Japanese technophiles, many of whom value the high level of customization that the browser allows.

Note: Facebook today is beginning to roll out a redesign aimed at simplifying the site and giving users more control over their profiles. The new version of the site has been in the works for some time now, and Ars Technica went hands-on to see how social and private the new design really is.

MPAA: DVR-blocking about multibillion-dollar theft problem
Note: What would Hollywood do with a waiver on selectable output control that could be used to block DVRs from recording some broadcast high-definition movies? Ars asked two MPAA staffers, but we couldnt get a straight answer.

Dark Knight iPhone App Lets You Jokerize Yourself
Note: Its essentially just a marketing tool for the Dark Knight movie, but hot damn if we dont like this. Just run the app, take a picture of yourself, then add Joker elements to your face. Works on iPhone (use the camera) or iPod touch (use a saved picture).

AT&T mistakenly announces free Wi-Fi for iPhone users..again
Note: AT&T iPhone users will not be getting free Wi-Fi access after all. For the second time in less than six months, AT&T mistakenly published a notice on its Web site indicating that Apple iPhone users would get free access to the wireless operators more than 17,000

Note: Music streaming and social community Last.fm has redesigned for a more mature experience, adding more integration and ubiquity across a variety of devices. Ars Technica put on some headphones and rocked out with some of the new features.

Note: Ive been taking the train to work for 4 years now. Its a 45 minute rambling ride in which I usually either read a book, sleep, or grab my laptop loaded up with Ubuntu and get some stuff done. Over time, Ive collected a few funny remarks Ive either over heard, or that people have said directly to me. Here are the 10 best.

iPhone vs Blackberry: The Titanic Struggle for Supremacy
Note: If youve read Ars review of the iPhone 3G, you know our opinion on its usefulness as a replacement for the ubiquitous Blackberry family from RIM. (Hint: not quite there yet.) That doesnt mean the two communication/Internet handhelds arent going up against each other for market and mind share.
