Gates Foundation to help libraries be better free 'net cafes

Libraries are having their own problems answering the demand for broadband and upgrading equipment, though, so the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is pilot testing a new grant program to improve access

Japanese group asks Google to stop violating privacy
Note: A group of Japanese lawyers and professors asked on Friday that Google Inc stop providing detailed street-level images of Japanese cities on the Internet, saying they violated privacy rights. "We strongly suspect that what Google has been doing deeply violates a basic right that humans have" says Yasuhiko Tajima, a professor of constitutional law.

iPhone 3G finally unlocked by the Dev-Team!
Note: Well this has been a long time coming. It seems that the iPhone Dev-Team has finally done the impossible -- they've gone and unlocked the iPhone 3G. The hack isn't out yet (the team says they're shooting for a December 31st release), but when it drops, the crew seems fairly confident it will result in freedom from carrier oppression.
