Researcher says Gulf of Mexico 'dead zone' bigger than ever
Note: A "dead zone" in the Gulf of Mexico off the Texas- Louisiana coast this year is likely to be the biggest ever and last longer than ever before, with marine life affected for hundreds of miles, a scientist warned.

Recycling Old Computers into Fuel
Note: Every year millions of computers are dumped into landfills instead of being recycled. But scientists in Romania and Turkey have discovered a way to remove toxic chemicals from old circuit boards and turn the scraps into fuel and other raw materials for consumer products.

Mounting energy bills seen to boost green homes
Note: Environmentally friendly homes, once a luxury reserved for the rich, have become more accessible to middle class Americans seeking to trim their energy and water bills, McGraw-Hill Construction said in a study released on Thursday. Within the last three years, more than 330,000 homes have been built in the United States featuring environmentally sustainable design, solar power, or other green technology, the study showed. That's 6.2 percent of all homes being built, triple the percentage in 2005, when 1.8 percent of new homes were "green."
