Crude oil tumbles to five-month low - losing 1/3 of its price since June 2008
Note: NEW YORK, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Crude oil tumbled to a five-month low Tuesday morning as traders shifted their concern from Hurricane Gustav to dampening global demand. As Hurricane Gustav appeared to leave the Gulf of Mexico unscathed and producers prepared to restart oil production, traders shifted their focus more on the slowing global demand for crude. The U.S. Energy Department's Energy Information Administration Chief Guy Caruso predicted that the crude oil price "could" fall below 100 dollars a barrel in the next 18 months due to a slowing global demand and an increase in oil production. Light, sweet crude for October delivery dropped 7.51 dollars to107.95 dollars a barrel as of 09:52 EST (1352 GMT) on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The price slid 10 dollars to hit 105.46 dollars in the early morning pre-session electronic trading, the lowest since April 2.

Note: Barack Obama may genuinely believe, as he promised in last week's acceptance speech, that he can prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. First, though, he'll have to overcome his running-mate's resistance. Israel's Army Radio just reported that Sen. Joe Biden told Israeli leaders in 2005 that they would have to accept a nuclear Iran.

Iraqi panel (Ahmed Chalabi- Iranian Spy-) condemns., member's arrest by U.S .
Note: BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- An Iraqi panel that oversees the activities of former Baathists is denouncing the arrest of one of its senior members by the U.S. military, which says the man is an Iranian-backed Shiite militant involved in a bombing that killed four Americans. The man taken into custody is Ali al-Lami, the de-Baathification committee's director general for follow-up and execution, according to Ahmed Chalabi, the head of the committee.Chalabi said al-Lami was detained at Baghdad International Airport by coalition forces, with the help of a foreign security company, after returning from Beirut, Lebanon."We deeply condemn this act against one of the committee's most senior officials and one who has had a major role in the committee's work," said a statement issued Thursday by Chalabi, who demanded the man's release and an apology to his family.

Dutch fear US will attack Iran
Note: According to reports in the newspaper De Telegraaf, the country's intelligence service, the AIVD, has stopped an espionage operation aimed at infiltration and sabotage of the weapons industry in Iran. "The operation, described as extremely successful, was halted recently in connection with plans for an impending US air attack on Iraq," said the report. "Targets would also be bombed which were connected with the Dutch espionage action." "Well placed" sources told the paper that a top agent had been recalled recently "because the US was thought to be making a decision within weeks to attack Iran with unmanned aircraft".
