Six killed in Iraq bomb- attack on Ahmad Chalabi
Note:
Ex-Iraqi deputy prime minister and former Pentagon favourite, Ahmad Chalabi, escaped a suicide car bomb attack on his convoy in Baghdad, an official in his office said today.Mr Chalabi was not wounded, but the explosion on Friday night in the western Baghdad neighbourhood of Mansour killed six of his bodyguards, said the official, Ayad Kadhim Sabti. Police said more than a dozen other people were wounded in the blast.Mr Chalabi, a secular Shiite who was once viewed by Washington as a possible successor to Saddam Hussein, was on his way to his headquarters in the area when the bomb exploded, his office said. After spending most of his life abroad, Mr Chalabi returned to Iraq in 2003 and served in the 25-member Governing Council appointed by the American occupation authorities to run the country’s day-to-day affairs. He was a member of the next two Cabinets, serving as finance minister and then as deputy prime minister but failed to win a seat in parliament in the 2005 election. He now is chairman of a commission responsible for keeping Saddam loyalists out of government posts, his office said, and is believed to have escaped several assassination attempts since 2003.Meanwhile, at least six people were killed and about 50 were injured today - including 19 in critical condition – when a suicide bomber attacked a market in Tal Afar, police and medical officials said. The small but strategic north-western Iraqi city has been a frequent target of suicide bombers over the past five years.Last month, officials said 25 people were killed when a car bomb exploded in a crowded market in Tal Afar, which is located about 260 miles north-west of Baghdad. US officials blamed the August 8 attack on al-Qaeda in Iraq.

Iran: Views from the Streets of Tehran: Iranians make clear distinction between American people and American policies
Note:
"I am not an expert." Ask an Iranian about domestic politics and that's what you'll hear. That is, until you turn the cameras off. Then it is politics all the time, much of it delivered with deprecating humor. Even Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, often feared in the West for his aggressive promotion of Iran's nuclear program and brutish statements against the state of Israel, is viewed by many Iranians as a comical figure.
But what does the country that invented "Death to America" really think about Americans and the upcoming presidential election?
The most shocking answer, if only because it was nearly universal, was a message of brotherhood and friendship to the American people. All the people we talked with, on camera and off, wanted us to understand that they view the American people and the American government separately. And while they may be critical of America's policies, they yearn for a better relationship with its people.
One young man, who deeply supports his own government's religious conservatism, wrote in our notebook, "All people of America are my brothers and my sisters. I love American people. Have a good time."

The Worlds First Photograph (PIC)
Note:
Centuries of advances in chemistry and optics, including the invention of the camera obscura, set the stage for the worlds first photograph. In 1826, French scientist Joseph Nicphore Nipce, took that photograph, titled View from the Window at Le Gras at his familys country home. Its pretty cool, check it out.
