Welcome to St John's Beaumont School
Note: St John’s position makes it particularly attractive to parents who live in London and the South East, and who wish their sons to spend their preparatory years near enough to home to make more frequent contact feasible. The school is near the M3, M4, M25 and M40 motorways, and is only six miles from Heathrow Airport. The nearest train station is Egham, which has a frequent service to Waterloo (approximately 30 minutes). St John’s has its own spacious rural grounds and is also adjacent to Windsor Great Park. The boys have the opportunity to take full advantage of the rich natural and cultural environment, not only in local excursions but also in frequent outings to the theatre and museums in London. All such visits are carefully supervised by members of staff.

Mark Thompson is the BBC director-general
Note: The Channel 4 chief executive Mark Thompson was appointed director-general of the BBC. Mr Thompson returned to the BBC hoping to draw a line under the post-Hutton period that claimed the job of his predecessor, Greg Dyke, and the previous chairman, Gavyn Davies.

Former astronaut Jeff Hoffman looks at the future of commercial spaceflight
Note: Ask a room full of typical kids today who would like to go into space and almost everyone raises a hand. But ask who thinks they actually will go into space and there is scarcely a murmur. The space age is almost 50 years old and yet the prospects for an individual getting a space ride seem lower than they were in the 1960s.
