Note: Yves Rossy -The first man to fly with the aid of jet packed wing. The Jet Man, Yves Rossy, a former Swiss military pilot, designed and built a deployable 3-meter wing, holding kerosene fuel for 2 jet engines (as of May 2008 FOUR turbines on a 2.5m wing!!) fixed to the tips and attached it to his back. Rossy launched from an airplane and flew for 4 minutes, traveling over 100 mph, landing by parachute.

Note: In today's Lancet, Kristin Dunkle and colleagues1 present a mathematical model of the expected proportion of new heterosexually transmitted HIV infections in urban Zambia and Rwanda that are acquired during marriage or cohabitation. Their model, which uses existing data from voluntary counselling and testing and population-based surveys for HIV, consistently estimates that most new HIV infections occur within marriage or cohabitation. They conclude that HIV-prevention efforts should expand beyond individuals to target couples."..."More than 20 years into the epidemic, it is striking that nearly 80% of HIV-infected adults in sub-Saharan Africa are unaware of their HIV status and more than 90% are unaware of their partners' status.6,7 Nationally representative data from east Africa suggests that 40–50% of married HIV-infected individuals have an HIV-uninfected spouse,5 and most do not know their own or their partner's status and do not understand that HIV discordance can exist within couples."... tags: virus

Note: Apple is quietly grooming talent. Pity whoever has to follow Steve Jobs at Apple. Not every great company stumbles into oblivion after the departure of a visionary founder. The problem: Jobs has left once before, and until he came back, it looked like Apple would be one of those companies. tags: jobs groups: in Apple Computer

merckens, at 12:31PM 07/06/07, shouted Hey there. I used to work at ESPN back in the day (on the East Coast though, in booming Bristol, CT). I'd love to get more sports fanatics using Searchles. I think it's a really great way for fans to share interesting stories about their favorite teams, players, etc. But keep your pieces coming. They're very entertaining reads.
