The 9 Best Liberties Taken with the "Say Anything" Boombox Scene
Note: Just like the scene in Say Anything where the little dude at the Gas Mart says "Bitches, man" speaks volumes to men everywhere (Disclaimer: likely that men have never even seen Say Anything - but if they did...), the Lloyd Dobler boombox scene set to Peter Gabriel's In Your Eyes causes ladies everywhere to swoon - to wonder, "where is my knight in a trenchcoat with a shining boombox circa 1989?"

David Byrne, Brian Eno and the viral album | Technology | Los Angeles Times
Note: Without the aid of a record label, music veterans David Byrne and Brian Eno have released their first new collaborative album in 20 years: Everything That Happens. The duo worked with Santa Monica, CA-based Topsin, which developed engagement and e-commerce capabilities for the album’s Web site. Those who want to buy the digital album can do so for $8.99, but Byrne and Eno are encouraging fans to share their site’s streaming player for free by embedding it on their Web site, blog or profile.

News from heaven : two new songs ......Tracey Thorn......
Note: unbending - At last i get around to putting up some new music - here is the track i have recorded with the unbending trees, called overture. it will be released on strange feeling as a digital single on 29th september, and the album "chemically happy (is the new sad)" will be out on october 6th, and you really can't be without it. no, seriously, you can't. meanwhile, progress on my new album consists of me having had dinner with ewan pearson! hurrah! we did manage to at least have a conversation about the next bit of recording, which will happen in the autumn, and by then things will be really taking shape. and also this week i am meeting up with jens lekman, to do something or other. there will be a guitar, and a mic, and jens with his laptop, and who knows what may come of it. a number one single possibly. or an obscure b-side. you don't really have b-sides nowadays do you. pity really, they were always our best tracks.

Note: Big-screen Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. scored his second No. 1 movie of the summer on Sunday as Hollywood spoof "Tropic Thunder" ended the month-long reign of "The Dark Knight" atop the North American box office.

Everyone talks about what could or could not happen, but what needs to happen is forming a community to lend a voice to this great city. We want Phoenix Local Music to be a voice you hear and especially one you can use. Who says nothing good happens to Phoenix in summer?

Last.FM Needs More Than A Redesign To Catch Up To Imeem
Note: Yesterday, CBS sent out a press release touting the success of Last.fm’s month-old redesign, citing a 20 percent increase in unique visitors and a 36 percent increase in total minutes between June and July. Despite a few bugs on the day of launch, the redesign seems to be paying off. But why is CBS so keen on beating its chest when it comes to Last.fm?

Next Harry Potter movie pushed back to July 2009
Note: The release date for the sixth Harry Potter movie, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," was pushed back on Thursday to July 2009 from its original slot in November 2008, movie studio Warner Bros. said.
