Mysterious white knight visits crystal-tear girl
Note:
Commotion stirred the Arab world: a girl was making hard glass crystals, sharp enough to cut paper, appear from her eyes seven times a day without any apparent injury to herself - it had to be some kind of miracle. The 12-year-old Hasnah Mohamed Meselmani became the centre of attention. Religious authorities and scientists sought answers to the riddle.

McCain's Health Plan Only Works If You Don't Get Sick | Health and Wellness Part 1 | AlterNet
Note:
FTP:"He has proposed something called a Guaranteed Access Plan (GAP), which most closely resembles the high-risk pools that have become dumping grounds in thirty-four states for sick people insurers don't want...If the goal is to provide coverage that works and is affordable, there's no evidence that risk pools have done that. They've done just the opposite." Coverage tends ...to be twice as high as standard rates in some states. Deductibles may be high; in Arkansas, they can reach $10,000.

If We Want Good Health Care from Obama, We Better Push Him to Change His Plan | Health and Wellness | AlterNet
Note:
FTP: The plan is naive, at best, and probably disingenuous when it insists that we can coax these corporations, which are listed on the stock exchange and exist to maximize profit, to transform themselves into social service agencies that will provide adequate health care for all Americans.~~~~~~~I want with all my heart for him to win this election, but he's got to get his act together with this one. 'Course, McCain's isn't any better. Read the next one.

Arianna Huffington: Saving the GOP and The Unbearable Lightness of Being Sarah Palin
Note:
"McCain doesn't just need someone with a fresh face; he desperately needs someone with fresh ideas. That would have been the real maverick choice.
Instead, he's got someone who, in perfect agreement with the Republican platform, believes abortion should be illegal even in cases of rape or incest or to save the life of the mother. He's got someone who, in defiance of science, doesn't believe global warming is man-made.He's got someone who, in defiance of science, wants creationism taught in schools.He's got someone who wants to further increase the health-care burden on the patient. He's got someone who wants to ban all stem-cell research.

Note:
"Serrin Foster, president of Feminists for Life. of which Palin is a member, is "Despite its protestations, Feminists for Life is not really about choice. You can see this on its Web site, where the slogan "refuse to choose" appeared repeatedly. Nor does the organization challenge the real difficulties working mothers face.

How to Survive the Triple Whammy of Energy, Food and Climate Crises | Water | AlterNet
Note:
FTP: "To survive we need to recognize that these threats are not separate problems, and they must be addressed as one major crisis. "
~~~~This is a long, but very enlightening read, and we must realize that not one nation can solve it. Gee, what a thought, naive as it may be, we may have to work together.
White House Tries to Define Contraception As Abortion | AlterNet
Note:
FTP: pregnancy begins at implantation. With this proposal, however, HHS is dismissing medical experts and opting instead to accept a definition of pregnancy based on polling data. It now claims that pregnancy begins at some biologically unknowable moment (there's no test to determine if a woman's egg has been fertilized). Under these new standards there would be no way for a woman to prove she's not pregnant. Thus, any woman could be denied contraception under HHS' new science."
