Researcher says Gulf of Mexico 'dead zone' bigger than ever
Note: A "dead zone" in the Gulf of Mexico off the Texas- Louisiana coast this year is likely to be the biggest ever and last longer than ever before, with marine life affected for hundreds of miles, a scientist warned.

Should This Guy Blow Up His Range Rover? You Decide.
Note: Theres no way around it: 13 MPG sucks. But what do you do with a Range Rover thats already on the road? Selling it just passes the burden on, so, should we blow it up? Drive it off a cliff? Convert it to a biodiesel or plug-in hybrid and give it to an organization that can use it to do something great? This guy will use the best idea he gets...

Senator Introduces Bill To Keep Adult-Rated Games From Minors
Note: U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker (D-Miss.) has introduced a game-restriction bill aimed at preventing the sale of adult-rated video games to minors. Although the full text of the measure is not available yet, the title of the bill states that it’s intended to “prohibit the sale of rental or video games with adult content to minors.” The bill was referred to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation without cosponsors.

Hasbro Tries To Shut Down Popular Scrabulous
Note: Hasbro has taken its fight against Scrabulous, a popular word game played by millions of Facebook users, to court. The game company claims copyright infringement violations (against its well-known Scrabble). “We view the Scrabulous application as clear and blatant infringement of our Scrabble intellectual property,” said Barry Nagler, Hasbro’s general counsel. “Napoleon Dynamite” Star To Do A Web Series
Note: Jon Heder of “Napoleon Dynamite” fame will jump into an online series as the star of Electric Farm Entertainment’s zombie comedy “Woke Up Dead.” Heder also will serve as a producer on the scripted online series, created by John Fascano, which centers on a USC student who wakes up under water in the bathtub one morning and suspects that he might be dead. “Dead” will include 50 three-minute episodes for online and mobile distribution in the U.S.

Netflix Reports 25% Increase In Subscribers
Note: Netflix ended the second quarter of 2008 with a 25% increase in subscribers compared with the same period a year before (from 6.742 million to 8.411 million). Overall, the entertainment rental firm had a net increase of 168,000 subscribers in this year’s second quarter, compared with a net loss of 55,000 a year ago. Revenue at Netflix improved 11% (from $303.7 million to $337.6 million).

Mobile Map Use Grows 82% In U.S.
Note: According to data from comScore, mobile maps are growing increasingly popular in the U.S. and Europe, with 8% of U.S. mobile subscribers and 3% of those in Europe accessing maps from their mobile phone in the three months ending in May. This represents a growth rate of 82% in the U.S. and 49% in Europe compared with a year ago. In comparison, growth for map use online is more modest.

Microsoft Expands Its Ad Deal With Facebook
Note: At its annual meeting with investors yesterday, Microsoft announced that it has expanded its existing advertising agreement with Facebook. Microsoft will provide Web search and search advertising in addition to its current agreement that involves running graphical display ads on Facebook pages. The new deal – limited to Facebook’s U.S. pages – builds on the deal in which Microsoft invested $240 million in Facebook last October for a 1.6% stake. New York Times
