Jason Gambert Tries to Trademark Term SEO
Note: Can you imagine that someone has been trying to trademark the term "SEO" for a year now and almost pulled it off unopposed? I just heard about this and am writing about it now; thought you'd appreciate seeing where I heard about it.

Note: The little search engine that could seems to be throwing in the towel when it comes to competing with the likes of Google. I'm as guilty as anyone of defaulting to Google in my searches, but I still wish I hadn't had to write this. :-(

Note: Here's a review I wrote of Yahoo Buzz, complete with images showing how it works. It's entertaining; not really a Digg or Fark clone (though certainly in that category of web site!). See the review for more.

Newer Search Engines Add Twists to Search
Note: Some interesting new features for newer search engines. I like the way they're implemented, where the user has a choice of using the features or not. Yahoo seems to be doing something similar to Enetez, btw (I'll be checking that out later).

In ID Theft, Some Victims See Opportunity
Note: The folks in Silicon Valley are trying to address the problem of identity theft. Debix, for example, is a new company with a service to call someone automatically whenever new credit is opened in their name.

Click Fraud Still an Expensive Problem
Note: This is worth thinking about if you're buying any pay-per-click ads. I hate to say it, but nobody comes off smelling like a rose here -- not the search engines, and not the self-appointed search engine "watchdogs" either. I'm posting this link in part because I was pleased to see the article picked up in one of the newsletters from Media Post Publications. Enjoy!

Zude Pages and the Future of Social Networks
Note: Here's the second part of the review I posted yesterday about Zude. In this part, I actually build a Zude page. Having played around with it some more, I can honestly say that the interface gets easier to deal with the more you use it. There's still plenty that I don't know how to do with Zude yet, but I figure I'll learn it when I'm ready.

Note: Zude is a new social site that lets you drag just about anything from the web and drop it onto your page. It's in beta, so the interface isn't perfect, but it's very cool; I could see it bringing site building to the masses even more than MySpace and Facebook did.

Note: I take a look at Google's Orkut, Yahoo 360, and the various rumors that both companies are looking to create social networks that will be more popular (perhaps challenge Facebook and MySpace). Someone please pinch me for forgetting to post this link sooner!

Note: A review of Askville -- or at least as far as I could get into Askville when the site's verification didn't work. I think it's a very clever way for Amazon to raise interest in the products it sells while fostering some kind of community.

Note: An article by Howard Cox (one of the writers I'm hoping to see more stuff from here at Developer Shed) that does a good job of explaining the issues surrounding the political hot potato known as network neutrality. I don't think I belong to a really good group for saving this into, so those who do, please feel free!
