Libraries step into the age of iPod
Note: It may be about time to dig out that old library card. Hoping to draw back readers, libraries have vastly expanded their lists of digital books, music, and movies that can be downloaded by their patrons to a computer or MP3 player -- and it doesn't cost a cent, unlike, say, media from Apple Inc'siTunes or Amazon.com Inc.

MySpace Partners to Stream Presidential Debates Live
Note: Today MySpace will be announcing a formal partnership with the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD), to launch MyDebates.org, a site which will interactive tools for users to engage in the upcoming Presidential and Vice Presidential debates. This is the first time in history that the Presidential debates will be streamed live online. The site will also provide a forum for viewers to post feedback live.

Hulu Adds Full-Length TV Episodes In HD
Note: Hulu has started adding full-length HD versions of TV shows – including episodes of “The Office,” “24,” “Heroes” and “30 Rock” – to its lineup. The episodes are presented in 720p but may be scaled down to 480p depending on the user’s connection speed. The episodes are ad-free for the time being. Hulu allows users to edit and embed HD clips for use on their own Web sites.

Note: The United States will be the underdog in the battle for Olympic medals in Beijing because the Chinese have become much stronger since the Athens Games four years ago, the U.S. Olympic Committee said on Wednesday.

Study: Broadcast beats papers for ad sales
Note: According to a report just released from private equity firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson, broadcast television in the U.S. will overtake newspapers for the first time this year in total advertising revenues. It’s a position newspapers have held since records were kept.

Chinese TV Show Canceled After Drawing Only 180 Million Viewers | The Onion
Note: Hijinx Of The Masses, a Chinese sitcom about 16 twentysomethings who live above a tea shop, was canceled Monday after the series premiere was only able to draw a disappointing 180 million viewers.

AOL Acquires Socialthing, Developer of Social Network News Feed
Note: AOL, the New York-based Internet firm that maintains the bulk of its operations in Dulles, has acquired Colorado-based Socialthing, developer of a social networking news feed service designed to help users trace the Internet activity of friends, according to a report in TechCrunch. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Socialthing, which has been operating in private beta mode since last year, reportedly raised $300,000 in funding last fall. The news comes following AOL's recent launch of AIM BuddyUpdates, which lets users of the company's AIM instant messenger follow the activity of their buddy list members on social networking sites.
