Why New York City's third try with tidal power is good news for the U.S.
Note: Good news. Verdant Power is set to restart its groundbreaking renewable energy project in New York’s East River. The news suggests that this and other cities are emerging as centers of green energy innovation.

Searchles | Show 'Japanese “We Are The World”'
Note: Japanese impersonators cover the infamous, star studded charity single from the ’80s. It looks like it’s part of some kind of game show, though I have no idea what the concept could possibly be. I’m just trying to decide if my favorite one is Bruce Springsteen or Ray Charles in black face.

Anchorage Paper Also Surprised By McCain VP Choice
Note: The news this morning that John McCain had selected little-known Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate was such a surprise even in her home state that the newspaper's top story on its Web site, even two hours after the news emerged, mainly quoted The New York Times.

Sakic Returning to Avalanche: News Conference Delayed By DNC
Note: Colorado Avalanche officials have been kicked out of their Pepsi Center offices during the Democratic National Convention. In fact, some of those television talking-head segments, with a skyline background, have been taking place on balconies in the office area of the building.

Album-loving artists blame iTunes for changed music tastes
Note: Online music sales continue to skyrocket at the expense of CDs. iTunes continues to be the leader of the pack, too, not only in online sales, but music sales overall. But a small rebellion is brewing against iTunes as artists become disgruntled with the hit they're taking on overall album sales thanks to the now-wildly-popular method of cherry-picking favorite tracks for download.

ODoyle Rules! Top 10 Showboaters in Sports (w/PICS)
Note: NHL players do a pretty good job of policing themselves. Excessive hot-dogging usually brings swift retribution. But Avery is one those special players who enjoys aggravating foes while drawing attention to himself. Who else would do jumping jacks in front of New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur during the playoffs?

Have the Media Failed to Help People 'Get' Climate Issues?
Note: Curtis Brainard: The most recent survey from Pew found that 71 percent of Americans believe the earth is warming. Roughly half of Americans (47 percent) think that warming is due to human activity, but almost as many (45 percent) say that the warming is due to natural environmental patterns (18 percent), that no solid evidence of warming exists (21 percent), or that they do not know the cause of warming (6 percent).
